Classes

Sailing School Classes, with a staff certified by the American Sailing Association and licensed by the US Coast Guard, Flagship Sailing provides personal, on-board instruction resulting in ASA certification that is recognized around the world.

Basic Keelboat Sailing (BKB 101)

Prerequisites – None

You will be able to sail a boat in light to moderate winds and sea conditions in familiar waters without supervision. This is a preparatory standard with no auxiliary power or navigational skills required.

Basic Coastal Cruising (BCC 103)

Prerequisites – Basic Keelboat Sailing Certification

You will be able to cruise safely in local and regional waters as both skipper and crew on board an auxiliary powered sailboat up to 30 feet in length in moderate wind and sea conditions.

Bareboat Chartering (BBC 104)

Prerequisites – Basic Keelboat Sailing and Basic Coastal Cruising Certifications.

This is an advanced cruising Standard for individuals with cruising experience. You will be able to act as skipper or crew of a 25-50 foot boat sailing by day in coastal waters. The Standard includes knowledge of boat systems and maintenance procedures.

Coastal Navigation (NAV 105)

Prerequisites – None

You will demonstrate the navigational theory required to safely navigate a sailing vessel in coastal or inland waters. There is no Sailing Skills part to this Standard. Practical application of the sailing knowledge is found in the Advanced Coastal Cruising Standard. This course is taught “under sail” instead of in a formal classroom.

Advanced Coastal Cruising (ACC 106)

Prerequisites – Basic Keelboat Sailing, Basic Coastal Cruising, Bareboat Chartering and Coastal Navigation Certifications.

At the student’s option, the Coastal Navigation examination can be taken upon arrival at Flagship Sailing. You will be able to act as skipper and crew of a sailing vessel between 30 and 50 feet in length. This is a day and night standard in coastal and inland waters in any weather.
